Starling Ensemble Plays Backstage

We were delighted to continue our partnership with IU's Jacobs School of Music by presenting the Starling Ensemble yesterday. The music was beautiful and everyone went away happy.

Visual Arts Reception

Every year we have a reception for the Visual Arts Committee. At this time, we also honor the 350+ volunteers who help us throughout the year. We could not do what we do without these wonderful people, both those in the public and those behind the scenes. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Lick Creek Band who gave a wonderful performance.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Visual Arts Exhibit

The Visual Arts Committee is exhibiting work in the Krempp Gallery this month through December 17th. These are the people who select the exhibits for next season as well as make recommendations for workshops and other programming. Many are accomplished artists themselves. This is a great time to view the work of these artists, most of which is for sale.

Mark Nizer, 3D Juggling

Mark Nizer entertained audiences of all ages today. In addition to his 3D juggling, jokes and stunts, audience members were invited to learn how to juggle in our lobby before and after the event. They tried their hands at juggling scarves, balls, and bean bags. Some were better than others.

Goodbye, Lisa!

Our newest friend, Lisa McSpadden, ended her time with us this month. She was handling our Regional Partnership work. Lisa is expecting her second child so we combined lunch with a babyshower. Every new baby needs some new duds! Bring the baby around when he gets here, Lisa. We miss you already.

ARTventures 2010

This summer we offered three weeks of fun for area kids, PreK through 8th grade. Music, art, drama, dance. Some students made their own place settings from clay. Others were into fashion design. Drama and music were new offereings and were both popular.

Goodbye, Dalesse!

We said goodbye to our dear friend and co-worker, Dalesse, at lunch today. We will miss her sparking personality. The whole office is so much quieter without her...and this is not a good thing. Best wishes at your new home in Utah.

Clay works

Kids made their own foodware in "A Place for Me!" Our summer intern Kendra helped the instructors in both classes. Class instructor Corey Eckerle helped students master the pottery wheel. She was a former summer intern and now teaches at an area elementary school.

Chalk Walk 2010

Boo hoo. Our 7th annual Chalk Walk had to be postponed due to rain for the very first time. However, we were able to have it the following Saturday, May 8th, and ended up registering more people than every before! The big hit of the event was the 3D Community Art project created by our friend Laura Pommier. Check out the photos and also go to our main website to see more images of the day.

Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day

We were delighted to entertain a group of Jasper middle school students for job shadow day. In addition to checking things out backstage, they spent some time making posters for our upcomnig Chalk Walk. They also made Imagine posters - as in, imagine where you want to be in 10 years. Great fun for all!

Kevin Spencer meets crowd after performance

Kevin Spencer signed autographs for the crowd after his performance at the Jasper Arts Center. Attendance was great and everyone loved the show. Including the sixty or so people from Kevin's own home town of Tell City who attended.

Thanks, Kevin and Cindy (and friends)! The show was awesome!

Kevin Spencer visited 10th Street School today

Kevin Spencer, master of illusion, visited 10th Street school in Jasper today. He brought his Hocus Focus program to the students. This is a program especially designed to help children focus and develop new ways of learning. As you can see, everyone got into the act, including Principal, Mr. Taylor, who stayed the whole day! (I think he really wanted to get good at this magic stuff.) With string, rubber bands, and dollar bills, Kevin had students and teachers alike on the floor and making contortions to follow his instructions.
Kevin will be in town for two more days. He is actually a native of nearby Tell City although he now travels all over the world with his wife Cindy and The Spencers: Theatre of Illusion show. This award-winning show can be seen in a public performance on Friday, April 9th at 7:30 p.m.
